Default aluminum trim under liftgate

Just got a 2004 AR for wife, and she's worried about the shiny trim under the liftgate. Does it wear with time, and what's the best way to prevent wear and tear? TIA

Default It shouldn't wear excessively compared to the rest of the aluminum trim on the car. Most important

is to teach her to use the inside grab handle and license plate to close the hatch. If she grabs the hatch by the edge all the time then yes, it will wear and tear that piece.

Default If you're referring to the aluminum sill plate where the latch is...

...then yes, it will show scratches, although not as bad as you might think. We're careful to lift items over the sill and not slide them across it. I know of no effective protection, other than maybe a small rug. Although, waxing might help.

Default Which of three different parts?

1. aluminum trim on bottom exterior edge of hatch
2. chromed (not aluminum, I think) sill plate
3. aluminum fascia (diaper) below bumper

Default anyone ever try...

...Stonegarding that stuff (even though the 'ribs' might make the install a little difficult)?

When the car delivers, the brightwork on the floor under the liftgate (as well as the little 'hatch' covering the latch hook) is covered by a blue film plastic for protection. Part of the dealer's 'prep' service includes removing all of the protective material. My 2001 acutally still has the protective film on the flap (which I am leaving there).

It really is impressive to see how cars are packaged for shipping nowadays....

Screw it. Just use the car. If it gets scratched too much over the years just order a new one.

Default I dropped off our AR today to be clearbra-ed...

and the installer was very reluctant to try because of the ribs. He was willing to cover the top of the rear bumper though.

Sharp? Sheeet, I ripped my index finger on it pretty good. Almost needed stitches...
