Default Another winter tire/wheel questions.

About to buy allroadgal some winter tires. Thinking of 16 Blizzaks !! Has anyone else changed to 16" for winters on allroad ?

Default I bought them but haven't put them on yet

I just picked-up the new ar this week, but bought the snow tires a couple of weeks ago. I went with the AT S5 wheel and a Michelin Arctic Alpin in 215-65-16 from Tire Rack. ($922) From what Tire Rack told me, the Bridgestone will offer better bad weather traction but the Michelin will be more durable and quieter on the highway. I drive 40K miles a year, so I had to go with durability. You can also go with the 17" Dunlop M2 or Pirelli 210 snowsport for better handling (H-rated) but they are somewhat expensive and are more prone to NYC pothole damage with the lower profile.

Default Re: Another winter tire/wheel questions.

I've ordered this exact combination and expect delivery shortly. I still believe in the premise of a -1" wheel and narrower tires with a mre open tread pattern where new snow is concerned. Spent a lot of time comparing winter tires but the reality of it here in VT, where there are only two interstate highways, where one can find unplowed dirt/gravel roads five minutes outside Burlington, and where we got about 130" of snow last winter, is that European-style winter performance tires are probably not the right choice. Last winter the stock Goodyears, which were then new, clearly didn't have enough bite in the snow.

Default Here's what the S5 wheels look like on a car

Default See you have P1800 ES too....

One of the coolest Volvos ever built! I still remember the very first one I saw; passed me in my 911 at 80MPH in the rain.

Default I had a roomate in college who had one

and I always thought they were cool. I'm just past stage one of restoration -all new mechanicals and have installed new leather seats. Lots of parts for the winter and then back to bare metal for the real paint job. I guess I am a sucker for wagons.
