AR Kayakers... any preference on roof rack set ups (pics from a short trip on the Potomac River)
Had a few hours to get out on the river yesterday. I live just a short distance from the northern part of the Potomac River (the clean part for you DC folks . Few camera phone pics.
Also decided that I should get a rack for the car versus the foamies. Any kayakers have a preference for the type of attachments for either racks? One brand easier to use than the other?

So that is how you turn a single into a tandem, nice paddle partner =)
Sidemount tower is easier to load and unload. No, I do not have a boat. Have been considering a nice touring sea kayak though. Lot of places to go here in the Puget Sound area of the PNW.

Sure thing! Just let me know when
Got a fellow MAer that wants to learn too. Thought about getting a few brave souls together for an overnighter down Outer Banks.

We have 2 kayaks that are more or less identical to yours (I think that's a Carolina 13.5) and use Malone carriers on a Yakima rack system (also works with Thule)
Have been very happy with them - stable at 80+, reasonably quiet.
The downside with any of the side loaders is the need to get 50+ pounds pressed 5 feet in the air - pretty easy with 2 people, good fun with 1. If you are only transporting 1 boat, you might look at something like the Yakima Hullyrollers.

Malone Racks
