car wont start!! please help anyone
Hi everyone. One of our cars isnt starting. 2002 allroad 2.7t. automatic. when i turn the key everything lights up and looks fine. when i turn it all the way to start the car it just doesnt turn over all the way. it tries and tries but doesnt get there. my guess would be fuel pump but that is only a guess. i went and got some octane booster and put that in and then the car actually did start up but i didnt want to try driving it yet. so after a few minutes i shut it off and then the next day i tried to start again and nothing. and nows it back to not starting. any help will be appreciated. thanks.

Is it cranking and not firing or not cranking?
If it's cranking and not firing it could be your fuel pump. These usually don't throw a code so you can't scan for it.

It also could be your fuel pump relay. It's cheap and easy to replace. I tried that when my fuel pump went out in the hope that was the problem. No luck for me though.

If its cranking but not starting it could be the crank position sensor.
Can you check for any codes?
The good news is a new sensor is relatively inexpensive ($50 or so for my 2004 2.7t), the bad news is that it is located in a really awkward location. A search on this site has instructions posted from others but its basically accessed from under the car, reach up the side of the transmission, remove skin from knuckles (optional), distort wrist to the point of pain (compulsory) and you will 'feel' but not actually see the small hex head bolt holding the sensor in place.

did you verify:
- have spark (easy enough)
- have fuel (disconnect fuel line, rag; then key on see if fuel comes out (2 person best)
- if you know how your fuel pump sounds: is fuel pump priming when you turn the key on (pump runs for a few seconds). Also easy: pull up rear seat bench to make listening easier.
That narrows down your troubleshooting areas.
