Check engine light

The check engine light has come on repeatedly for the past month on my 2000 A4 1.8T.
I took it to the dealer a couple of times where they replaced some hoses, but the light came on 24 hours later.
I checked my gas cap because I've heard that is what usually triggers the light to go off...light is still on.
The only thing I can think of is that it might have something to do with the Mass Air Flow System. My question is...has anyone ever cleaned one out on their own? I would rather avoid taking it back to the dealer and spending more money than I should.

Find someone near you with a VAG

You need to check the error codes yourself to find out what is wrong. The check engine light kept coming on in our Cabriolet since it was new. Four dealers tried to fix it over the years with all failing. When I got my own VAG, the error codes said no signal from oxygen sensor 2. One dealer had already replaced the sensor. I checked the fittings and found a loose connection. So far it has been off for several months. I am jaded by my allroad experience, but I basicaly find Audi dealer service next to if not worthless.

Same problem on 03 AR

My dealer said that it was the O2 sensor. The next day the light came back on. Then it went off next time. Then it came back on again. And so on. No pattern.

I haven't taken it back to the dealer yet.
