Checking Oil
I'm a noob to Audi's so please forgive if this has been explained in the forums before.
When I check the oil in my 2006 A6 Allroad using the method from the Owners Manual i.e.
1. start the car and let it idle for a few minutes.
2. turn off the car and wait 2 minutes.
3. take the dipstick out and wipe.
4. replace dipstick.
5. take dipstick out and see where the oil is on the dipstick
My oil level is at minimum level. Even if I leave it for 5 minutes it then still stays at the minimum level.
If I leave the car for a few hours or check it after standing overnight I see that the oil level is up to the highest level on the dipstick.
I do not want to overfill the car so what is the correct way to check?

I only check engine oil levels hot like that when I'm on the road. My normal check is with a cold engine. You do not want to exceed the maximum oil level. I've been an Audi driver since the 1980s, but have only had an Allroad since February.
Other fluids should be checked hot and/or with the engine idling after full warmup.

Thank you for replying.
When I check mine from cold the oil level is correct. But when I check it using the audi owner manual method it needs to be filled up so that is why I am confused.
Is there a way to check the oil level through the MMI?
