Class 3 hitch?
Does anyone know of a way to get a Class 3 hitch on the allroad? My understanding is that the allroad hitch is Class 2. I need the Class 3 to support a platform for a motorized wheelchair. The platform specifications call for a Class 3 hitch.

Re: Class 3 hitch?
The factory hitch accessory is a class 2 with a slight weight de-rating to 3300lbs. Class 3 is generally found on most full size SUV's and Pickups.
You would have to engineer something as the factory type setup is a tight fit. The issue you have is not overall weight rating but tounge weight. You could have something made that is lower and horizontal in the receiver and acheive your desired results, but it would be very custom.
Hitch Classes
Hitch Class Max TW Max GTW
I up to 200 lbs. up to 2,000 lbs.
II up to 300 lbs. up to 3,500 lbs.
III up to 500 lbs. up to 5,000 lbs.
IV up to 1,000 lbs. up to 10,000 lbs.

Oddly, the allroad tow capacity is rated at 5600lbs in Europe...
I'm guessing that our hitch (which is actually different looking than the Euro hitch) would easily pull more than 3300lbs, as some people here do it. I'd guess some combination of lawyers and Marketing types got together and derated the tow capacity in the US.
Either that, or our version of the hitch really is weaker?
