Default coolant leak, the puddle on the ground is midway (front/back) of the engine compartment on the

passenger side. I know it's vague but until I can get under it tomorrow night I figured I would fish for probable causes and pointers. Did a search found some links on the auxilary coolant pump but that didn't leave a puddle in the links I saw. Do the heater core fittings leak often on these?

Default A minor coolant leak turned up to be a bad water pump...

on my 2001 passat. When the WP bearing suddelny seized, my wife pulled over and called me (she was in the middle of nowhere, in the night and it was snowing). We had the car towed to the dealer.

Default Re: coolant leak,

Mine did the same thing just a couple weeks ago. It only happened when the car sat for a long period (2 days), and gave teh plastic and metal bits time to contract enough to cause the leak. I then drove it for 2 more weeks with no re-occurance. Odd... I replaced my coolant tank several months ago, and maybe the new tank helped keep the pressure higher in the system, causing a leak somewhere else. Hope that helps a bit.

Default If it's a 4.2 it's a little plastic tube at the oil cooler...

...on the passenger side between the oil filter and the engine block. $5.00 part; 6 hour complex job to get to.

Default Well I put the car up on ramps and ran it for 10 minutes or so to get to operating temp with the

heat on high. Not on friggin drop has fallen. looks like I'll have to leave the belly pan off and play the hide and seek game.
