Curious question on rear rotors; what year did they go to vented rotors? My '01 has solid rotors...

Re: Yup; my 4.2 has vented rears. Diameter looks the same, but I haven't measured.
That would mean differnt rear calipers as well. I'm surprised that Audi would make that change.
It's pretty disapointing to have such a nice car with mediocre brakes.

Rear brakes appear to be larger vented 269mm; fronts are...surprise...HP2s
Did some quick measuring, but no luck finding the part numbers.
Just guessing, based on looking around, it looks like they're similar to the rear rotors/calipers on the last gen A8 and Passat W8, and the calipers on the B5 S4 (S4 had 256mm rotors like allroad 2.7T, but ventilated).
I saw that someone else mentioned it back in January, but I didn't know the 4.2 was also still using the 4 pad HP2 caliper up front (not the 2 pad FNRG-60)...like both of my '01s. I've had great luck with them on my S4 Avant, but not on my allroad. They stop great, but I'm on my third set at 48k on the allroad and on my original set on my B5 at 60k (with 6mm left).
So there you have it; brakes are different between 2.7T and 4.2 on all four corners...and I didn't know it going in.
At least it's an easy rear upgrade path for the 2.7Ts!!

From the info I believe it's the same as the S4. But I didn't bother looking at
4.2 allroad as I'm looking at the 05 S4 brakes. They seem very close. I have a name and potential contact at Porsche-Audi who can confirm or deny parts interchangability. It's good to know somebody who works for an Adui-Porsche dealer. It's got side benefits too. This weekend I'm doing my exhaust. I'm also looking into possibly becoming an allroad specialty shop. I'm looking at a software tuner company, in concert with another interested party. Also I may start fabing my own exhaust. No one else is really intersted in doing anything and the big guys just cherry pick stuff they push from the S4. We'll see.

will b6 s4 rears fit under 17 rims? looks like rear rotors on 4.2 allroad are maybe s8(269 mm) b5 s4
is 255mm iirc. calipers are probably the same. you could probably sell a lot of shocks if you came up with 1 with more dampening. : )

Agree; having access to a good parts guy is a good thing
I believe the caliper is the same as the B5 S4, but the disc is .5" larger in diameter (269mmx22mm versus 255mmx22mm)...or at least that is what measured out on my '01 S4. Best I could see is the disc on the 4.2 cross referenced with last gen A8 and Passat W8...and perhaps others.
