cel phone pic does this no justice. I do need to upgrade to LEDs to get more brightness.

A certain mr. William T. posted a video of his custom audi puddle lights to the Audi C5 Facebook group, and I was instantly inspired to see if I could customize them further. These door projector 'laser' lights are a pretty neat idea and can be added to any car that has a puddle light already installed.

I ran across THIS POST of someone doing the same thing. so I picked up a set on ebay (like $15) and took them apart.

my recommendations for anyone trying this mod would be to keep track of the orientation and placement of the lenses and gobo (the image). This is essential to ensure focus of the final image. I referenced these pictures I took to get things back in the proper place.

I've deduced that before installing, I need to find a better solution than a regular printer for the graphic gobo. the newer HP laser that make the B+W "über" logo is much sharper than the color "allroad" logo (printed on a lexmark color laser) that I also tested, but the ink simply isn't dark enough to mask the light in a way that looks clean enough for my standards. I printed both of these images at 1200DPI (although I think the lexmark is actually at about 600 or less).

with some research, I found that laser cutting and engraving is often applied at 1200dpi or higher, so I am thinking to explore that to create a proper gobo. not sure which design I'm going with yet. and with a laser cut piece metal, I will be limited to white or one color with the use of a lighting gel. also since it will be a solid piece, masking the inside of the O and D in allroad will be difficult.
