Probably a loose gas cap
This has happened a couple of times to me in about 9 months of ownership. It has been that the gas cap was not properly tightened until the snap clutch clicks a few times. I wouldn't worry.

Beats me. I guess I got about 150-200 before I got lucky ;-)
I filled it, tightened it, drove it, tightened it, filled it again. Still there. Picking my plates up this week. I'm making them run the diags on it to make sure. It's annoying. I'm actually contemplating getting the VAG-COM set for $200 to eliminate unnecessary trips to the dealer for service.
Anybody figure out how to disable the sensor or something?

VAG-COM tool???
Is that all it costs $200???
And where might I be able to purchase one... $200 or even $400 is small price to pay when you can save yourself a trip to the dealer every time a light comes on!
Have not had a any lights, problems, etc. with my allroad but my check engine light did come on a couple times on my A6. Took it to the dealer and they reset it using the VAG - told me it was just a miss-fire on one of the cylinders. Maybe for davew968 it's nothing more than this? 8-)

Re: VAG-COM tool???
I wish it was simple...
They say it's a transmission error code and they have to talk with Audi Tech to figure out what is exactly wrong. Looks like I might have to drive the rickety Volvo to Yellowstone if I don't get it back by Thursday.... It's funny, one of the things I hate most about the Vovlo are the warning lights that that go on all the time... and of course this is the first thing that happens when I decide to fix the problem by getting a new car.

A misfire is usually no big deal, but in my wife's Outback it turned out to be due to....
a bad cylinder head (took them nearly 80k miles to finally diagnose). Although it still works at 120k without ever getting repaired ($2500!!!) and aside from being slow as crap, doesn't feel like it misfires, but the check engine light is a permanent fixture in this car (when the hell will that burn out...it's been 5 years!).
If this "misfire" repeats itself and is always in the same cylinder, I'd be concerned (but I assume you got rid of the A6 when you got the allroad, so it doesn't matter anymore).

You need a PC, obviously a laptop would be the best. It includes the hardware (adapter from car to RS232) and the software. $199 + shipping
