Did read FAQ Need clarity on Euro-Hitches

rdar:
Can you explain how you made your lights work with the 13 pin plug you linked wired straight into a 7 or 4 pin?. Do you have separate turn & brake lights on your trailer? If you have a combination brake/turn light set up which is most common on U.S. trailers then I can't see anyway this could work without a converter. Not saying your wrong just hoping to understand.
SAvant4:
There is no height adjustment, but it seems as though the hitch is set up to be a good height match for most trailers.

I have to tow in level 1 to keep my trailer from riding too high in the front, but it's pretty lightweight so I don't think it'll bother anything.
My car has the factory hitch and it came with an adaptor that plugs into the receptacle on the car, and converts to the standard 4 pin for the trailer's harness. I think you can buy those in the aftermarket.

The 13 pin plug will come with a wiring diagram. There are also some on the web, do a google search. All I did was hook up the 4-pin wire adapter that I picked up locally to the correct pins on the plug. You will need a 4 pin adapter that converts the separate turn signal and brakes to the same circuit, I think it's called 3 to 2 wire. There is a thread on this site or the other site with pictures, just can't remember which. It will be from the May/June time frame.

Here is a link to a comparison of the EU and NA hitches https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...php?p=18096338. The thread on the electrical is on the other forum. Search for hitches and rdar.

rdar thanks for the info. Did you use a powered converter or a regular one? Also have you tried it yet with a trailer or just the test light. My set up worked correctly with the test light but not with a trailer.
If anyone is so inclined I would love to know which wires are on the factory harness. All 13 pins or did they leave some out for the US cars?
Thanks.

I actually have a oem 13 pin harness that doesn't work. It is pretty much the same as what I built. The only thing is the OEM uses the 12v line to power it. Depending on the trailer the 4 pin adapter may need to have a feed for 12v. The more lights that more power that is needed. Maybe save just to buy one with the 12v power feed to begin with.

I bought the Westphalia hitch from PF Jones in May, contacted Danny there. I got it for $600 including shipping and it was not a group buy. They may not have taken the VAT off yet which is why its so high?
