Default do NA hitches lock and / or rattle?

seems there's a vertical receiver that a drawtite adapter can fit into and convert to 2" horizontal receiver

Can those be locked?
If so, what lock are people using

Also, if anyone is using an adapter like the drawtite one, is there any way to snug it in so it doesnt rattle?

Thanks

https://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/253480.phtml</a

Default I'm not sure I follow you..... (edited with a solution)

I have the OEM hitch. I don't keep the receiver in it unless I plan to use it.

When it in, its held in place via the usual bent receiver pin and a cotter pin goes into this retaining pin. The fit is snug, not just the bent pin into the receiver assembly, but the receiver into the vertical. There is no vibration or noise, at least none that I can here.

I would think being there is room to insert the bent pin into the assembly, then there is room to insert a receiver lock as well.

If I were doing this, I'd opt for removing the EU receiver and MIG Weld on a US Receiver tube and reinforce it with a heavy gauge plate, drilled to accept chain hooks.

I don't think, given our suspension, you need to worry about the 300 lbs for the ar's handling.

BUT, the angular shear force of your assembly (leverage) may start to cause a twist in the main hitch's cross member. 300 LBS is your vertical weight, not your leveraged weight.

I towed well over 5000 lbs, Toronto TO NY and had no issues at all, but this was somewhat balanced weight on a twin axle U-haul.

The drawing may (SOP) alleviate any shear leverage worries, by spreading out the forces across the member instead of them being centered.

Default thx for drawing and input, isn't the NA hitch a vertical 1 1/4 receiver and not 2"

I was under the impression that the drawtite adapter vertical piece was for 1 1/4 receiver and it converts the "hidden" hitch to a horizontal 2" receiver

at least that is how I understood what morecarsthanbrains wrote (see link)

Could someone who has the OEM NA hitch measure their hitch ball piece to confirm

The primary use would be for a bike rack, which connects to US style 2" horiz receivers

I don't see any towing in the future, but would like to keep that option open

If I were to get something totally custom welded on to the receiver, then could get a 2" vertical piece, but may have to fab a vertical to horiz adapter similar to drawtite's one, but might as well go 2" on both ends

The leveraged weight thing (from a bike rack) makes sense and definitely something to consider

I believe the Bosal hitch itself is recc'd at 200lbs tongue weight and the drawtite adapter at 300

https://forums.audiworld.com/allroad/msgs/253487.phtml</a
