Default Electrical Problem

I have a 2001 Allroad with 15K. The car was perfect up until 3 weeks ago. The info panel showed all the doors open, windows, moonroof, interior lights, power seats etc would not work.

Audi said their was a short and corrected it. 3 days later; same problem. My car has been at the dealer for over a week and they can't find the source of the problem.

I don't know what to do. Please advise.

Default It's not a "short", it's a "ground" problem, bad earthing probably in the rear of the dash/fusebox.

It may be intermittent and can be a real pain to find. The mere act of going in there by a mechanic could clear it, and it could come back again any time.
Go to car electrical specialists if you want a permanent cure, not a regular dealer.
A short normally affects one thing, usually blows a fuse in the process.
A bad ground/loose earth connection can affect multiple items, which I think is the cause in your case, causing all sorts of unpredictable feedback problems.

Could also be a faulty "IC" on a control board, dry joint etc. hence the requirement for a specialist. Generally they will replace a component only, garage's tend to replace an entire unit with horrendous costs incurred.
Are you still under warranty?
Even if you are, go to the specialist.

Just my €0.02.
Good luck.
If you get stuck, ship it to Ireland,
and I'll fix it (for free)

Default Re: Electrical Problem

I had olmost the same problem with my 2001 allroad, only my instrument panel was burning out. Audi fixed it the first time and then it happaned again. I hired a "lemon law" lawer and Audi bought it back as a lemon. They refunded all my money including tax and down payment so Iwent out and bought me a 2003 allroad 6 speed. let me know if you need a name of that lawer, my email is v_lion@yahoo.com
