Default Has anyone ever removed the subwoofer and Bose power unit...

from the right rear panel? The reason I ask: My wife backed into the ar and put a 6" round dent between the right rear wheel well and the gas cap. DentWizard says they can repair it if they can get to it. Soooooo, before I start ripping electronics out, I thought I'd ask our much learned (and non-confrontational) board if anyone knows if once removed, if you can get your hand down that far in the well?

Thanks,

Woods

Default I haven't, but let me know if you do; thinking of replacing that sub

Let's just say i've never been too impressed with Bose given their price, and would like to put a driver with some more oomph in that same location.

I'd guess it won't be any more than some fasteners (screws or similar) and a wiring harness to get that thing out; but you'll know for sure if you remove it, and I'd like to know what you find.

Default Here's a really good system upgrade write up from a couple years back.

The hardest part is getting the side panel out. You have to remove the flooring panels first, and a couple of the side fasteners are tough to find. After that you can see everything and it all comes out readily.

They'll have lots of room to work on the dent.

Once you see how the subwoofer "works" you will want to replace it. It has the typical Bose reverberation box with a five-inch (yup!) woofer in it. The funniest thing is that the woofer fires directly at the sound-damped wheel well with about an inch of clearance. No wonder it sounds like no sub at all.

There is plenty of room in the panel to put in a real sub amp, and in spite of the stereo installer's insistance that you run wires as big as railroad track you can tap into the stock wiring with no problem.

Mounting a good sub in that same space is a damping challenge though, as there's plenty of space but a real sub will get everything in there rattling.
