Default thank you. and that is exactly why we have different bumpers :)

the std. EU bumper support extends into the frame as one solid peice, it is solid where ours has the shocks.

for pics look at page 30 of this euro hitch install document:

http://madisonminer.com/images/ar/au0637.pdf

and figures 24 and 34 in this US hitch install doc:

Default nice!

creative engineering. It looks like your dog is pulling on the chain assembly.

Some have done this without the alum. part. You can also cut a piece of lumber to take its place.

Have you thought of using the ar's rear tie down hook for your trailer chain?

Default Hate to say it, being more safety conscious these days, but...BTDT!! ;-)

Loved the pictures, but glad you stopped short on a couple of those. Obviously the smart thing to do.

Thanks for the info as well as the humor. I enjoyed it!! (And glad there are no injuries.)

Default yes, I may use the rear tie down too...

although others have warned it is not strong enough, and they are probably right...

HOWEVER, I did foolishly pull my F-250 out of a ditch using the rear tie down, and it worked fine... I think it would probably be strong enough to stop a wayward trailer for a few seconds.

But I know the J-hook would be strong enough, and I think I can wrap chains around it so they will not come off...

Default Try this....

Cut them in half and weld them on.

Great job. Nice write up. That U-bolt looks tough! I can't believe it held up.

how difficult is the wiring for a post-2001 allroad?

Default difficult = 0

post-2001 come pre-wired. The end of the harness is riveted to a bracket under the bumper. you just drill out the rivet when you install the hitch and you are good to go...
