If your SAI pump was going to fail...mine has been doing the bad whine for almost
a year, now it seems like it doesn't always come on and it has been very, very cold...consequently the oil temp reading is coming up slower than usual. Question: Will I throw a code when the SAI really gives up or what other symptoms will present themselves...I STFA and most just talk about it whining and then it is dead but not what happens in between and if anyone has it run intermittantly? Ok, here's a dumb question when you say code does it throw a CEL or simply something
you would read with VAG-COM...I know that you can read CEL codes with VAG, but I also know you can scan the car and there are sometimes codes that don't appear as CEL? TIA

There are soft codes and had codes. Soft codes will log in memory but not trigger the check engine light. Some soft codes can mount up to trigger the light. Once your SAI stops doing it's job a check engine light will occur(hard code). I'm not sure if the SAI will log x errors before posting, or post hard on the first event
