Default info nibble on 2002 Availability and Modifications

Since I received no feedback from my earlier question on this board, but there were many hits (= substantial interest?), I decided to do a little work and give back to this board a little of what I have taken from it. I have been told that if one orders an allroad from the factory today, there will be a 4 month wait, after which an '02 will be delivered. Basically, '02s will be arriving on dealer lots in Sept/Oct. Dealer states pricing and details are "imminent", but noted that the '02 would be essentially the same. Not even the color offerings would change. Has anyone else heard about any modifications on the '02? I am wondering if there is any "good" reason to wait, or should I take the plunge now with the current dealer inventories? Opinions?

I haven't heard of any substantial changes, but neither have I looked that hard (hate it when I find out later that I should have waited). Also it seems that your dealer isn't really trying to push the 01. Therefore I would suppose they aren't under any pressure to clear the 01 inventory, and that suggests to me any changes will be small. One thing I would check on though is the tip if you're planning to go automatic. Audi is working on a new multi-tronic which is supposed to be better than the tip. I don't know when & which model it will debut though.

Default No major changes planned. Just little things that are tied into the A6 platform.

See the site below for some of those things. Of course the Allroad bodywork remains the same, only some underskin parts should change. An order really does take 4 mos. from scratch. If your dealer is selling every Allroad they can get their hands on, it means they do not have a car to trade to another dealer should the other dealer have the car you want. Of course, a special order means nobody else has test driven your baby;-)

The Multitronic at present works only with 3.0 ( the enlarged normally aspirated 2.8 for '02 sometime ) and lower output engines. A CVT that can deal with the output of the 2.7t is still sometime in the distant future. Audi is presently working on making the Mutitronic work with QTR. 90% of all Audis in N.A. are sold as QTR. Multitronic will debut in the new style front trak A4 coming this fall. Once the QTR issue is figured out, you should see it on all the 3.0 and 1.8t cars. If it is reliable, it may go up to the 2.7t and the 4.2.

https://www.audiworld.com/news/01/a6redesign/index.html</a

Heard that Multi-Tronic will only be available on FWD initially.
