Default known weakness in front suspension arm?

Hi,
I have a 2003 2.7T Allroad.

When taking a sharp turn at low speed I hear
creaking sounds (and feel them slightly through
the wheel) coming seemingly from the front
suspension arm. The creaking or clicking comes
from the right arm when turning left; turning
right is normal so far.

This creaking has been going on for a few weeks
now.

I just read in my local auto press that there is
a known weakness in A4, A6 and VW Passat front
suspension arms and that breakage is typically
preceded by some creaking sounds. VM (and Audi?)
has acknowledged the defect and replaces the lower
suspension arm on affected vehicles.

Has any Allroad owner met with the same problems?

How did you deal with it?

Thanks,

Default Re: known weakness in front suspension arm?

I read someplace that it only affected the pre '00 cars. Seeing that I have a '00 A6 2.7t and now a '01 allroad, I'm paying attention!
Now, that isn't to say that as these cars age, there won't be something else that shows up... Real wear and tear on parts is so much better at revealing flaws....

Default Lower control arms ...

have been reported here to be a weak spot. Several of us have experienced that failure. Starts out as a grunt type sound when the suspension moves. Noticeable more at slower speeds rather than highway speeds. In addition to control arms, I also had lose sub-frame bolts that resulted in worn bushings past spec. Bushings are not a replacement item, so I got a new subframe.

Default Ditto on the bushings...

I had loose sub frame bolts, and rather than replace the bolts and the bushings, my dealer decided to just re-torque them.

6 months later, the clunk is back and getting worse...it now clunks over just about every undulation.

Same dealer also told me the creaking I am hearing is normal......
