In Leiu of Sarges post, what are the recomended winter tires?
Might as well start the first discussion this year :-)
I know people like the Hankook Icebears but there has been some new tires out since then.
Any recomendations?

heh I was just going to start this exact thread
Ive always heard good things about Dunlop Winter Sports(both the M3 and 3D variations)
Im lookin at Winterforces(because they are cheap) as well as Dunlop Graspic DS2.
Blizzak WS-60's are $15 more per tire than the Graspics, but are higher ranked on TireRack.<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR4&url=%2Ftires%2Fsurveyresults%2Fsurveyd isplay.jsp%3Ftype%3DW%26amp%3BVT%3DC%26amp%3Bwidth %3D225%252F%26amp%3Bratio%3D55%26amp%3Bdiameter%3D 17%26amp%3BtireSearch%3Dtrue">Winter Tires Survey</a></li><

I have almost 25k miles on my Icebears...winter and summer and they still have quite
a bit of tread left...we won't see snow here for a little while...for those of you in this area plan on it on a Monday night as that is when I teach night class and at that point I will look at whether they can go another winter...my thoughts were in keeping them on the car all year was that if this thing is going to eat tires let it eat cheap tires with good traction in all seasons and on allroads You can certainly pay more and I would bet the Hakka's would be killer in the snow but I couldn't get them when I wanted them last year and I have been happy with these...give my allroad a nice off road look too and since I drive off the beaten path often they have been great. Just my two cents worth.

Hakka's and Winterforce.......long
I have Hakka Rsi on a Camry. Most surefooted (ice, packed snow and greasy roads) I've ever had. Winter trips thru the Rockies as well as ski trips to Lake Lousise, no issues. They go on end of Sept and off April/May. Wearing extremely well, most miles are actually on the relatively dry city streets. First went on Sept/05. Currently measure 9/32 to 11/32 with variation likely due to how long they were on the front (drive) wheels. Estimate they have 18000 Km on them.
Just put Winterforce (235/55/17)on the ar. Got them in Vanc (1 season on them)at $325 compared to Rsi quote $1350. Good grip thru Rockies but no snow/ice yet for real testing. Started smooth but were out of balance at 55 mph by the time I got to Calgary so will rebalance. A bit noisier than Hakka's. Can be studded. Tread "looks" like it will be good in deep snow, not sure on traction yet.
