LOW RANGE on my dashboard.

LOW RANGE on my dashboard.
Hello.
For several days on my dashboard constantly lit LOW RANGE.
It's Audi Allroad C5 2.5 2001.
The message is there, although "Additional shift stage" is not enabled and the car goes normally.
This massag began to appear initially when I switch on the upper speed shift (1-3-5).
Before that everything was working normally and "Additional shift stage" work fine.
Now the message is constantly there and button for "Additional shift stage" is not working.
To start I'll check the cable from the controller to the button.
If anyone has any idea what this is about, help ...

Yeah, what Papertoast said. Us over here in North America wish we had the option of a diesel and low range.
I do know that a guy named Scotty DeWitt (owns Advanced Automotion) on Audizine and the Audi allroad Quattro group of Facebook has dealt with the low range stuff before. Try searching him out.

Most often the hydraulic actuator unit goes wrong which is mounted on the right (?) side of the gearbox in the line of the torsen differential. It is quite expensive, around 1000 eur. Hopefully the problem is not there.
@Papertoast: at least 90% of the C5 Allroads have diesel engines here and generally, in Europe. I could hardly find a 2,7T here and I would never change against a TDI, seeing their emission / soot and various problems around those engines (cylinder head wear, camshaft premature wear, rocker which slides around on the camshaft on the revised version, injection system, etc), despite much less components. (Growth of the diesel ration involves severely increasing health risks (refer cities in France) but it would be a broader topic to discuss.)
