Default Re: been there...done what?

Yes, the brothers L have been in the Ti business longer than Moots. BUT, the softail design Litespeed uses is a direct rip off of Kent Eriksen (Moots...at least Merlin had the class to license it from Moots...but now that the same parent company owns both Litespeed and Merlin, it will be interesting to see what happens). Moots has been making bikes for 20 years (since 1981), and they built their first softail in 1989 (out of steel...switching to Ti a few years later).

The rear triangle design details I speak of concern tubing diameters, bends, and most importantly, the Breezer-style dropouts (as opposed to traditional plate employed by Litespeed). They attempted to rectify the deficiencies of the Unicoi design in the Tsali. Unfortunately the beefier downtube, while curing the symptom (wagging bb and rear end) doesn't treat the disease.

Actually, this ends up becoming more of a religious argument rather than hard and fast technical debate. My original comment was more tongue-in-cheek, and due to my feeling that Litespeed and Cannondale are more BMW-ish that Audi-ish, but to each their own. And actually I'll leave the Coda stuff alone as I have no love for anything Cannondale.

Default Re: get a real rig for your car? haha

yakima shmakima hehe.... my thule case is much more efficient .. thx anyway...BTW an american rack on a european car? like putting audi rims on a chevy =) all audi racks are based off thule. I'll stick with the europeans, they make stuff better anyway. Keeping with a theme...
the car looks great though...

Default Re: Space Case (20 cu ft) and Doublecross

There is no magic in buying European for European cars. The audi factory rack is not made by Thule and is reported on this site to be very noisy. The Yakima is quiet and the accessory parts are great. I personally think the Thule whale back box looks stupid. I saw it on an allroad in Whistler this Spring. Post a picture of your car with the thule box below the yakima picture and let the forum vote which is better looking.

Default Re: Vision box (14 cu ft. good enough) railing foot pack

It's not magic....It's about class, style, and efficiency(aerodynamics)... 6 cu ft. woopie ;p... I'm a guy, I can pack anything into a space,(laugh) besides I don't overpack anyway.
FYI the doublecross were made specifically for Subaru Forresters. hm... note: spacecase weight is 46lbs..vision box or..er... whale box: 40lbs. no blubber weight here...yakima is 92" x 31.5" x 15" "whale box" is: "(L)91" x 26.5"(W) x 14.2"(H)...sleek and sound...PLUS it opens on both sides with ease...yaky? nope... no offense to yakima, like Thule it's very nice and over priced =P.
When I said "rack" I ment the components. Audi stock roofrack options are BASED on Thule (look at the bike racks and especially the snowboard carriers that come through Audi... looks like Thule components to me...) and yes the RACK BARS that are factory look very bulky and I would imagine alot of whistling (that's why I didn't get them)

BTW I'm not that insecure for a vote. I and many others like our whale boxes just fine... hmmmmmm you don't like the whale box cause........you can't afford one? hehe jk

Default check the forum

you'll find square bar folks complaining of noise and roundbar folks commenting on quiet. Subaru foresters take crosstops not doublecross. Check your facts. I'll take the Yakima steelhead with cast stainless steel mechanism over the thule bike mounts with nylon gears inside that strip over time. Check your locks too. the thule locks are set in nylon sleeves so you can spin the cores with an average size screwdriver and open them up. The yakima cores (same vendor eurolocks) are set in steel sleeves and so are more secure. Finally there is the matter of esthetics and as I said I saw the allroad with the whale box on it and it was not a pretty sight.

BTW both Thule and Yakima boxes are made in Franklin Park Illinois (not europe)

Default Re: lmao... check YOUR facts ;P

before you get in a debate you better prepare your facts: "Thule Inc. is a growing automotive and sporting goods accessory manufacturer in the south-central part of Connecticut. Thule, Inc., 42 Silvermine Road, Seymour, CT 06483 not Illinois man.

I quote from Thule: "The Thule story goes back to 1942, when the company was founded. Today, Thule is one of the three business areas of the Eldon Group, which in its turn is owned by the Swedish industrial investment company EQT....
...Production takes place in Sweden, with the main factory in Hillerstorp, as well as in England, Germany and the USA. Over the years the Thule brand has developed into an international market leader, with approx. 95% of the sales going to more than 40 countries outside Sweden...
...Generally speaking, the relationships that THULE has with several automobile manufacturers(that includes Audi) enables them to design a 'Perfect Fit'. With Made in America quality, Thule provides the most options for more vehicles than any manufacturer in the world."

(I love the internet, it confirms my knowledge so well) =)

I think going at any speed will create some whistling regardless if they're tubes or bars. (basic rules of aerodynamics... whatever is in the way that obstructs the flow of air/water of an object, will cause a turbulant vortex surrounding the object that is being force through air/water, thus creating SOUND. If your going 130mph down the freeway anything will whistle) and as for the comment of the double cross? better check your facts pal... they were made for the forrester, I have confirmed it on yakima's website... I didn't know you were such a thief expert... scary... I usually avoid areas and places that I would be cautionary of theft. Do you live in a seedy part of town that you need such paranoia? If I did, I probably wouldn't put ANYTHING on my car. BTW I've had plenty of Thule cases over time and didn't have any discouragement of the nylon gears... anyway.... If someone wants in your case they can easily take a buck odessey knife, a saw, a blowtorch, a shotgun in that matter, and rip the #&@#^@! out of any case regardless of "steel mechanisms." cause as mom would say: "If a theif wants (into) something they'll find a way."
matter of esthetics? your opinion bud. Any rack, case, carriers etc. that anybody puts on their car shows great character of an active person/family that should be applaused. regardless of brand.
