Default nasty sounds under ar.

Hi Guys wonder if you could help me diagnose two nasty intermittent sounds.

Number 1.

Usually triggered by firm breaking. Sounds like driving over ruts or bumps in the road, equally spaced thud thud thud etc. As I slow down it disappears. Sounds like Rear end of car.

Number 2.

I was doing a tight full lock turn in my work car park, sound was terrible like dragging a length of steel box section behind me! What a noise. Again sounded like it was from the rear of the car, I went around again to try and trigger it whilst my college checked under the car, nothing out of place. Reversed into a space and it disappeared!

This has got me very worried, have you guys got any ideas what it could be? I gave the exhaust a good shake and was fine.

Thanks Matt.

I would look at the brake pads front, and rear to be sure. The inner pads can wear away to nothing while the outer pad still has plenty of material in some instances.

number 1 isn't just the sound of activating ABS is it? I recall being pretty surprised how noisy that is the first time I heard it.

I replaced all the brake pads earlier this summer so they should be fine. As for the tuding sound , the noise is much slower than ABS being activated unless there it has variable speeds? Thanks for the reply though!

Take a look at the rear brakes again. Did you just replace the pads a short time ago and no new rotors?

I would guess you are going to find the rear pads you installed are worn out and the rotors are warped a bit as well which is where the thud comes from. It's not at all unusual to have new pads get eaten in no time at all by bad rear rotors.
