Need I replace belly pan?
Tried a top end test and the belly pan did not stay with the car. I assume there are several reasons to replace it, aerodynamics and physical protection for CV boots and such. Does anyone run without one and is it wise? Oil filter changes will certainly be faster.

I remember reading a test somewhere on AW
which concluded that the car ran cooler with the belly pan than without, but I dont have any idea why that would be the case.
also, I'd rather have the belly pan take any impacts from road debris, rather than all of that hitting parts like the oil pan or CV boots.

Re: I remember reading a test somewhere on AW
My concern is just that, CV boots at risk. In any event the pan got lost (about 40 mi north of the North Dakota border if anyone wants to go looking) at the start of a 5000 mi road trip to New England and back and I don't really want to have to "time out" at a dealer if I don't have to.

Re: Second. The description of RS6's is ... This explains Gragravars comment
that things run cooler, seems the pan vents concentrate and direct air flow to specific hot items. Will wait to I return from the road trip to replace it and then resume the test. It was at 125 making nicely for 130 when the unexpected noise convinced me to cease and desist.
