Default Unfortunately you're not alone

Below is a copy of one of my earlier posts. If you look thru this forum a bit, you will see this is not atypical. It seems that allroad reliability is inconsistent to say the least. After owning 8 other very reliable and trouble-free Audi's, my allroad has been a huge disappointment in the reliability dept. As I've said before, it's a great concept but leaves a lot to be desired in reliability. :-(

****
I've had my allroad 11 months and here's the record so far:

1/30/01 Initial purchase

3/20/01 2743 miles Water leaked into headliner via the rack mounts
Oil leak from engine
Dealer diagnosed water leak as from around windshield
(ordered new one) and the oil leak as a loose fitting

4/10/01 3800 miles Windshield replaced

4/21/01 3900 miles Oil leak reappeared. Pulled tranny and replaced rear
engine seal

4/30/01 5320 miles Water leak continued, windshield washer reservoir leak
Dealer finally executed the Audi Service Bullentin re roof
rack leak, reconnected hose on windshield washer (it had
blown off from water pressure (hose clamps??))

12/6/01 10413 miles Electrical system died. Car had to be trucked to dealer.
Found a loose ground wire to engine block

12/27/01 11172 mi Windshield washer reservoir leak returned. A new problem with the hose to the headlight washers.

( Not included here is regular service plus two recalls (windshield wiper & fuel sender)

Not a very pretty record for any car this day and age, much less a "well engineered" German one. Granted some of this reflects Audi service capabilities, but that's part of the deal. Moreover, I've seen all of these problems reported by others on this forum so I don't think my experience is all that abnormal.

***

Good luck and thank goodness for warranties - just hope you have the time to deal with it.

Default They're all lies I tell you.... Lies! 8-)

...As I've said since day one, no complaints at all. Everything from "distorted glass" to "air bag" light coming on, I've experienced nothing!... Don't envy me however, I'm begining to feel left out - I'm never apart of the "IN" crowd.... 8-(

Hopefully your problems are a "one-off" as you say! (I'm confident they are.) 8-)

Default Re: Unfortunately you're not alone

I think this is typical of German cars in general. Some are reliable as a rock and some are troublesome. Duds or creampuffs with nothing inbetween the extremes. I have heard the same thing about BMW, M/B, Porche, VW and Audi. I had a friend who had an 84 AUDI 4000s I think, ran like clockwork, pushed through 16 inches of snow.Yet others I knew had nothing but problems and called Audi's, overpriced unreliable junk.

Default 4,000 miles in 6 weeks on my 2002 and all is well, but

I know how you feel. My first Audi was a '96 A4 that spent more time at the dealer being repaired than I did driving it. I actually bought a Thule kit to fit the 100S loaner car fleet so I could put a ski rack on loaner cars. The dealer and I decided the car must have been built during Octoberfest. On the bright side, my '98 A4 Avant was flawless through 150,000 miles as is my allroad so far.

Default Forgot to mention "check engine" warning

The warning light comes on about every 3-4 weeks. I took the time and trouble to take it to the shop for the first few months - they either told me it was "nothing" (no error codes) or said it was "just" the low level vapor leak probably due to loose gas cap (which is definitely untrue). I finally bought the VAG-COM software and now just check it myself and reset it. It's always been the low level vapor leak code so far. I live in the mtns and suspect that this sensor gets confused by the different altitudes as my A8 also does the same thing.
