Default allroad brake pads ...

we haven't forgotten you - as you know, we had a software migration yesterday and our "Search" function is not showing our historical data just yet - someone will get an answer back to you soon - in the meantime, you can search allroadfaq.com and under How-To there is a brake upgrade info page

I would say that they are pretty much like any other brakes with the exception of the rear. To retract the rear caliper piston you need to turn & push the piston at the same time (tool available) the fronts are like anything else. As for what pads to buy, I won't even get into that. Everyone is going to have a different opinion. As long as you purchase them from a reputable local or online german parts houses or dealer ($) you should be fine. No Auto-Zone, Kragen etc.

Brake pads are very specific to what your needs are. Do you want something cheap, quiet, stopping power, or with less dust, you would have to put those in order to get a good recommendation.

I just put on the Green stuff pads last month, They where very noisy at first, not as much dust as stock, they have quieted down for the most part. Ive heard that the Mintex are good pads, As for the Hp2 VS the FNR. The HPS have 4pads per front caliper where the FNR's have two pads. You can either look at the front brakes if you see two small pads on the outer side then you have HP-2's if its one large pad its FNR. You can also check the code sticker on the inner lip of your rear trunk. but you will still need to decider the codes. I cant find the link to that right now.
