oil pan location
--OK I'm not a DIY-er so I really dont know where the oil pan is on my 4.2. can I assume it is the very bottom-most part of the engine visible from the ground? I want to install the external oil pan heater as I am most likely going to try to keep my car for a long time. Doing this supposedly greatly decreases wear on the engine on start up and also helps the engine and passenger heat on coold startup--- something my car seems to like less and less.

Drop the front composite "skid pan"....
And the oil pan is the big, flat, bare aluminum piece.
Well, it is on the 2.7 - I can't imagine it would be much differently configured for the 4.2.
