OK- Tire tread depth dilemma. Replace or shave it first?
AGAIN, right rear is down to 3/32 while the other three are between 6/32 and 7/32. Car came off the alignment rack and nothing unusual in the RR alignment. Front was way off and required replacement of tie rods and had to shift subframe to equalize left to right. So only thing the tech and I can figure is that the front was so bad that the rear was crabbing down the road.
So I will need to put a new Toyo T1R on. Question is- do I just put on one, and know that I'm within specs, or should I have it shaved first to 7/32? New is 11/32. I know the right answer is shave it, but I'd need to get the new tire, drive 100 miles to Tire Rack to have it shaved, drive back to have tire mounted on wheel.

Oh 'Ed and grag I agree that in theory someone should do this for you but good luck finding one...
when I tried I got...
"I don't know what you are talking about"
"Why would you want to do that to a new tire"
"We used to do it but don't any more"
"Huh?"
"What?"
and almost every combination and permutation of the above...end result...four new tires

Mount it as-is. Maybe move it up to the front right and take left turns real fast for a while...
...that'll wear it down. I've had to mount a couple replacement tires on my quattros and wouldn't sweat a new vs. half-worn tread issue. I do put the new one in the location that gets the most wear though, which is usually the front right.
