Default PhatBox dilemma ... to cut or not to cut the rear storage compartment door?

I've just finished installing a PhatBox in my '02 and I cut the back of the factory cd changer bracket so that the PhatBox could go back as far as possible. However, the cable and plug on the back of the PhatBox limit how far back the box can go. The position as shown in the photos is as far back as it will go without putting too much stress on the cable and plug. The problem is that the storage compartment door fits perfectly when there's no cartridge in the unit (second picture) but won't go back on once the cartridge is installed (third picture). My dilemma now is to either leave the door off when the cartridge is in (basically all of the time) or cut a small letter box type opening in the door so that it will clear the cartridge. I can always buy a new door if necessary so I'm leaning towards cutting. I'd really appreciate any thoughts on the matter. For the record, the PhatBox is FANTASTIC! It's so much more than I expected.

Thanks.

Default Check out TeddyBGame's link for the install. Don't cut anything yet! ...

Default I am perplexed? I did same thing/install and my was able to scoot it flush?

I do know what you mean and thought about trimming out a piece of the insulation on the inner part of the door but I found that I had enough room and really didn't need to. I knnow it would be a pian but can you remove bracket and check the cut again?

Default Don't cut through door, you can cut enough insulation from back of panel where cartridge will touch

to make enough clearance for door to fit again.

Did you cut a hole thru bracket so you could attach phatbox cable to phatbox thru rear of bracket?

Default Good job not cutting. Here's how...

My install was done by Ben @ Audi of Mission Viejo. He found that the tray/bracket could be removed and cut (at the back) so the the Phat can go to the back more (Phatback?)

Here's the finished product on my '02.

Default Yes, I cut the back panel off and mounted the PhatBox as far back as possible with just enough room

for the cable.

Default Your unit sits about 3/8" to 1/2" further in than mine so I wonder if the cable on the back has a 90

degree bend in it where it comes out of the plug. Thanks though.

Default

In order to move the box further back I'd have to put a severe bend on the cable which I don't want.
