re:2004 AR w/ 18"rims need new tires?
I have a 2004 with the 18" rims. Live in Cleveland area and need to replace the tires with something more all season and better in the winter. Have any suggestions? The OEM tires get very splippery when the temp plunges and the rubber hardens.
thanks in advance

looking for dedicated winer or all-seasons?
Nokian makes great tires for both. I'm running Nokian WRs for the winter (although they are an all-season with severe weather rating)and I'll see how I like them come spring.
Do a search, a lot of opinions on the subject...

At the recommendation from some of the allroaders here I bought mine at Goss tire in Vermont...
They were great. Best price I found and shipped out next day UPS Ground. Will ship same day if you call them in the a.m. Shipping from Vermont to NY was $48. I talked to Keith Reinders in the main office 1-802-660-3412.

I had them installed at my lodal Audi dealer, a bit pricey, but I wanted them road force balanced and they were the only shop in the area I could find that had the right equipment.
Nokian link below for more info on their line of tires.
ar drivers also like the Falken Ziex 512 (although not sure how they'll do in harsh Cleveland winter)and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and others as well...

http://www.nokiantires.com/newsite/homeF.cfm</a

Since you're in cleveland I'd try conrads.
I've used them a few times. I've found a tire I like on tirerack call them up, normally they're less expensive than tirerack and it includes installation, disposal, road hazzard, etc. I think Conti ExtremeContacts are good imho, i run them on my wrx.

pilot sport A/S should be good but about $275/tire- there were some complaints...
about these in the 225/55/17s so do a search. Conti extreme contacts look nice and are probably $75 less/ tire. Avon has a tech M550 A/S that is about $100/tire less than the pilots but I can't find much feedback on them. Too bad perilli doesn't have the zero nero M+S in 245/45/18
I'll be interested in what you get as my rossos should only last another season or two- they're only being saved by running my winter set 5 months of the year.

Conti ExtremeContacts....EXCELLENT all around tire, great price.
I've had them, Gragravar has them, and I have 4 other friends with volvo V70xc's and V70R's that now have them and LOVE them.

Paulroad - I hope to run my Azenis through...
The NJ (Princeton) winter. Should I be OK? For family trips, we will likely pile into the MDX so the ar takes me back and forth bt. home and the train station and to the beach (yes i said beach)for ominous (but often sizable) winter swells.
