Default Really torn over "chipping"

I'll start by saying I've owned 10 Audi's. Over the last four years it's been 2 B5 A4's (1.8T), an S4 (obviously 2.7T), and 2 B6A4's (1.8T's). And before that some 4000's a 90, a coupe and maybe one I'm forgetting.

At any rate I'm sharing this with you because all the Turbo cars have been chipped. I've used AMS, GIAC and Neuspeed. Now I find myself with this beautiful new A/R and once again I've purchased a "chip." Bought a Neuspeed chip through my dealer and now it's just a matter of a 90 minute drive to Neuspeed to have it installed...but I'm hesitating.

I drove my neighbors B5S4 Avant tip (AMS chipped) yesterday just to remind myself how nice a "chipped" car was...and it was great. Everything it should be....pulled hard, great acceleration...put a big smile on my face. But then I got back in my car and it wasn't all that bad. Sure it wasn't as fast...but it was quick...and I dare say quick enough for me. I look at the car with its baby seat in the back (one more on the way) and I'm really struggling with whether or not I even want to bother with it.

If there were absolutely no warranty concerns I wouldn't hesitate for an instant but at this point I just don't know if the extra 50 ponies are worth the added concern, which for me, would always be there. The chip was bought from the dealer and they're (the dealer) "chip friendly" but that's still not 100%.

I don't know...ultimately it's my decision...and I'm not looking for anyone else to make up my mind for me. Just curious if anyone else's head is in the same place as mine.

NOT SAYING THAT I HAVE ONE BUT I HEAR....
1. depends on your dealer
2. better gas mileage
3. all about the pull then the ponies if you think about it, thats what people want. not top end HP.
4. when you have a baby, its good to know you can get out of the way from bad drivers in a brisk manner... theeeeeennnnn slow down and enjoy being ahead of them on open highway!
all said you already know... whats the site you got your neuspeed chip? dyno stats? never heard for one for the AR. cool.

Default I am on the same fence. . .

. . .but I just put Bosch Sport BPV's (110's) in my 6spd manual AR and the results are not subtle, not as dramatic as the chip but a good boost to performance and sound.

I am now thinking, "I may not need a chip" -- I can out accelerate almost anything out there now and I do not drag race EVER. The extra grunt would be a blast, I am sure. But I am finding my self saying "why bother?"

The BPV's were $45 apiece and of course 2 were required.

I am, however upgrading or have upgraded the handling.

Default my fence is swaying in the wind...

one the one hand it sure would be nice to have those extra horsies. OTOH I'd rather not blow the turbos. I'm really glad I went with the H-Sport sway bars. They really help with control of the vehicle over the twisty stuff. I'll probably install the Tip Chip. But the ECU mod? I dunno....

Default I am also undecided...

My wife has an 01 New Beetle Isotope 1.8T APRed and it's now a blast to drive pushing about 209hp/242lb-ft, up from 150hp/162ft-lbs. I also upgraded the BPV to the Stratmosphere BPV to handle the increase in power. I actually broke the cheap plastic stock one trying to take it out. The result, night and day for this car. Her car is out of warranty, so we don't have to worry about that.

I am assuming the same result would happen with the AR chip, night and day. Direct Port makes the decision even tougher now.

3 main factors keeping me from chipping:
1. My AR is leased.
2. My AR is a tip.
3. Warranty issues.

Default Why question your motivations now, after having chipped 5 previous Audis? You did the S4...

Go for it!

Give us the full report on the Neuspeed - preferably with before and after dyno charts and ignition/boost logs, so we can see how smooth it is! =)
