Default Rear fog brake conversion?

I was just wondering if anyone had rewired the rear fogs to serve as an extra set of brake lights. So you hit the brakes and all four lights go on (5 with the overhead). I never use my rear fogs anyway so it shouldn't be hard to do. Plus maybe you could wire in a diode or something of the sort so if you do turn on the rear fogs they don't also turn on the brakes.

Anyone tried this? Thoughts? Legality?

Default I would think that the mod would be illegal...

you'd think, that the more light the better to be seen (ala the way the motorcycle folks think) but last I looked it up I believe legally you are allowed the two outter and third center brake light.

Ran across this when looking up the clear corners, which are also illegal.

Default Should be east enough to do.

You'll need to intercept the wire above the rear headliner and reroot it to the side hatch where you can splice into the brake light. My want to change the bulb to an LED to lower the volt drain on adding extra loads.

Then the early Lexis 300 model and Range Rover Discovery is illegal.

Default how so?

I think the Land Rovers do have the additional brake lights in the bumper if that's what you are referring to.

I've been trying to search the DOT/NHTSA database for real answers. Only thing I've found so far mentions two brake lights placed symetricly on the rear outter edges of the car and a higher center mounted light.

Didn't say anything about it being only three, or the amount of lights.

Also found something that mentioned the max candle power of brake lights and the stock rear fog bulbs would need to be swapped out, providing the mod is legal.

Default Legality aside, it's doable

The only problem is that there is no mount for right hand side foglight and it's fully enclosed - you would need to drill through (from the backside, naturally) and carve your own. This might also damage the reflector.
