Reusing newish timing belt tensioner

Reusing newish timing belt tensioner
Just had my thermostat housing fail, it was new and a pos. Anyways is it alright to just compress the pin back in the tensioner and use a allenkey to hold it in and replace the thermostat housing and then re-tensioning the belt with my pretty much new tensioner by pulling the allen key and retensioning the belt?
