RMcQ Procedure: allroad 2.7T Timing Belt Replacement
#25
Very nice, 2 questions...
1. How did the timing belt & rollers look/feel - wear wise?
2. How did you know which way the drivers side cam had to rotate when installing the new belt - you said it was 1/2 tooth off with lockbar in place....
Thanks for a great step-by-step!

1. Belt and parts looked fine, but I am told that you can't tell squate by looking at them.
2. The cam was not 'off' by 1/2 tooth. I know what tooth needed to be on the cam I just wasn't strong enough to pull the belt as tight as it needed to be around the cam sprocket. I 'cheated' the cam sprocket back 1/2 tooth to get the belt on then returned it to the TDC position with the belt on. I hope this is clear.

Just curious...
if it was put back 'exactly' to the mark how could it be wrong? Perhaps it wasn't perfectly TDC when you made the mark?
It seems like it should be pretty easy to verify everything is right after installing and tensioning the new TB. I would think a 1 tooth error would be easily visible if the marks where made carefully and accurately with the engine at TDC. I know others have done it without the bar.
