Default RPM's and MPH?

Hi all,
I just received my 2005 2.7 Allroad automatic
I am a little surprised at how high the RPM's are at highway speeds.

At 70mph, the car is running close to 3000rpms is this right?
Can anyone tell me if this is correct or should the transmission be kicking into another gear?

Thanks

Our 2003 AR runs exactly the same. I thought it was rather high also. I hoped the RPMs would drop as I just had our torque converter rebuilt (because it wasn't locking up).

Normal. They are geared very low.

Just to pile on... same experience here, and yes it is high.

Well the car is pretty smooth at 70mph, but it just didn't make sense for touring vehicle to run so high.
Would be great to get a definitive from Audi.
Thanks for the responses.

Gearing on allroad is very high, 3300 at 80mph or so.... there is nothing you can do about, especially auto boxes.

For 6 speed, you can always get S4 tranny with rear differential swap and you'd be really chilling at much lower RPMs at the same speed.

My guess is that Audi geared it so at highway speeds it isn't putting much if any demand on the turbo's to hold the speed.

I'm a new allroad owner, and noticed the same thing. Drove my wife's minivan with a 230 hp 6-cyl, and it spins somewhere just above 2k at 70 mph. Still sucks at gas mileage, but I was suprised that Audi didn't gear it higher UNTIL I read 5v/cyl's comment about the turbos. THAT makes sense.
