running split spoke wheels wheels without out face piece
Does anyone have experience with doing this? I am thinking the wheels would be lighter. But I am not sure if the outer plate is structural or cosemetic.

I have run them for years as snows without the hub cap
The problem arises when you go to put them back on. They may fly off and be a 12 pound metal frizbee if not bolted back on properly. Many of us have removed them.
