Santa Barbara allroad adventure...
Just wanted to get you guys some updates for those that are interested.
Several of you may remember my trip to Santa Barbara in July, which resulted in an extended recovery period from an assualt that occured while there. Well, here is the latest update:
Suspect has been arrested and booked at county jail in Santa Barbara. The DA said he most likely is out on bail and probably has an attorney lined up. I just got off the phone with the DA's office and they informed me that the suspect will be araigned Nov. 18. They are charging him with 3 felonies:
-battery with serious injury
-assault by means of force
-special allegation: great bodily injury
These are all the result of him crucshing my face with his fist in one solid blow (8 broken bones, fractured cheeckbone, fractured orbital and zygomatic and finally a concussion). This resulted in major reconstructive facial surgery with (fortunately) the areas most respected maxillofacial surgeon and hefty medical bills (God I hate HMO's).
The mentioned charges are appearantly very serious. He could go away for a long, long time if the prosecution does it's job (which it should). They may issue a subpeanna for myself and the witnesses in which case we would all testify at a preliminary hearing. Nothing like an all expenses paid trip to Santa Barbara!
Anyway, I just wanted to let you guys know where things stand.....

dude, it has a WRX engine.....
I was thinking about picking up a westfalia. An early seventies bus or something. Dropping a porsche engine in it or something. I just really like the idea of driving around a bus you can cook in, sleep in, and wash up in.

I'm having trouble with a "140+ mph" Vanagon...
even with 250hp. I think you'd need a bit more power than that to push a giant brick that fast.
Nor would I want to drive that thing at "100+ all day long." !!

If it makes you feel any better, a 3.0 Porsche motor will bolt in. Best to keep the 915 gear box.
just ad an oil tank and your good to go. How do I know this, we put a 3.0 turbo in a 82 combi Van and used it to tow a choptop 930 to the salt flats.
Have a safe trip.

Yeah the Porsche route is easier....
No trimming of sheet metal required, tranny bolts in (I need new tranny mounts anyway!
I think I need to pay off the initial restoration first though, and get a headliner installed.
