So the dealer is telling me that my missing fan blades are lodged in my radiator, which is
what is causing the leak. Anyone ever heard of something like this? I'm thinking there must be something else going on here since I just can believe that 4 fan blades just let go without coming in contact with something. Maybe a motor mount is loose…any theories/opinions?

Yeah seems a little strange for the blades to just flyoff without hitting something don't you think?
Just heard from the dealer that the radiator needs to be ordered, so I get to keep driving the Budget rental Taurus until at least this Wednesday...In the mean time, I asked the dealer to take a look at the motor mounts 'cus I could just see them fixing this only to have it happen again.

my fan fell apart, took out a bunch of wires. I would believe it could have damaged a radiator

Interesting...ever find out what caused it? What were the conditions when it happened? I was
accelerating across and intersection when it occurred and heard a huge bang…which is why I'm thinking it was caused by excessive engine movement (i.e bad engine mount).

about 2 years ago, wife was driving.
doing a steady 80mph or so on a climb in the mounatins. she said it sounded like she ran over something, but never saw anything in the road and the sound must have been from the fan blades bouncing around.
never did get any more detail on what caused it.
fan was replaced, wires were fixed, no problems since.
