the open position and wouldn't latch yesterday. I drove home from work with the lid pulled shut and parked it for the night. I figured that the plunger that controls the latches ability to latch had not retracted after extension as the latch itself moved freely.
I STFA to find other people with that issue. So, this morning, i figure i'll remove the rear cover over the latch mechanism and fix the plunger. I read some references in the a6 forum to removing the sunshade and removing a bunch of screws. Whelp, I could only find 2 screws in the trim cover itself -- 1 under the emergency triangle cover, one under the interior handle and couldn't figure out how to remove the sunshade. There are also two screws on the adjacent trim piece that holds the rear sunshade in the 'sun blocked' position.
So, I couldn't get the cover to budge...but i was able to see the plunger through a hole in the triangle trim piece. I 'jiggled' the plunger, lubed it a bit, activated the open/close a few times and it now works without issue.
However, i'm still wondering how you get the rear cover off?!? Anyone?

My rear latch broke that same way and I had the dealer replace it under warranty
Sorry, I don't know how to take anything apart. Bentley, anyone?
It's not a cheap part, I think just the part was around $250. If mine goes again, I'm going to try to lube it!

the rear sunshade is a pain at frist, but easy once you have the right tools...
for me the right tools were two little, thin, cheap ice scrapers. Once above and one below.
you have to get that sunshade out to get the cover off. use something plastic (i started with butter knives, DONT DO THAT!) and you will need two of them. if you pry below it just moves up and visa-vera, good luck...

All I know is the gorillas at the stealer broke all (yes all) the tabs/clips on
this when they replaced it under warranty...and unfortunately the latch itself has a PLASTIC part in it that breaks and causes the whole mechanism to get farkled (that is tech talk for PIA to fix and lots of $$$)...good luck man and sorry for the rant...just don't let anyone post the "what I love about my allroad" tonight or they are apt to get a negative earfull
