Default Some opinions before I purchase tires.

My new wheels are arriving tomorrow and I still can't decide which tires to get. It's between Bridgestone RE960AS and Michelin Pilots A/S. RE960AS are 100W and Pilots 96Y. 245/45/18 Pilots are $145 from Tire Rack which is why I'm leaning towards them. My only concern is the load rating of 96Y. Should that deter me from buying them? Thanks for your opinions.

Joey

Default just a couple of thoughts from this peanut gallery...

...while the price on the Pilot A/S tires is pretty good, looking at some of the "subjective" ratings from tire rack's website, consider the lower ratings of the Michelin vs. the Bridgestone tires you listed in the areas of ride comfort, noise comfort, and treadwear. The Bridgestone appears to be much better than the Michelin in those areas.

Either way, the load rating of 96 vs. the 100 will not really be a factor. 96 should be just fine for the allroad.

Default the 96 rating should be OK, but with 18" rubber?

this question may be subject to your streets, pot holes, etc.

Default having owned the Pilot A/S, and bought them for $240 when they were new, I'd do it again

I had the 245/45/18's as well and they are simply excellent tires, the best rain tires I've ever had, and grippy in the dry, road noise is lower than the stock tires or my winter tires so I never noticed it

96 is 1565lbs/corner, how much weight do you plan on putting in the car?

I use the past tense as I've ditched my 18's for 17's

Default Another candidate--->

I've bought five sets for different Audis, including the allroad. A great tire for year round use.

Continental ExtremeContacts...

Default FWIW Costco has a $80 coupon on Michelins that your local tire

dealer will likely honor (mine did...Mavis in NY).

Default Same issue, load rating of 96, good tire, owned them too...

I still vote for the Bridgestone RE960. I have driven the ar on the Advan S.4. as well. The Bridgestone beats the Continental on wear &amp; the Advan on noise.

Default Currently using General Exclaim UHPs on a D2 S8

I have General Exclaim UHPs on my D2 S8. They are wearing very well with very good wet and dry cornering capability. They were on the car when I bought it and now have about 18k miles on the set. I am very pleasantly surprised at being able to find a good "z" rated tire with good tread wear at a reasonable price. Load rating is 100W.<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR4&amp;url=%2Ftires%2Ftires.jsp%3FtireMak e%3DGeneral%26amp%3BtireModel%3DExclaim%2BUHP%26am p%3BvehicleSearch%3Dtrue%26amp%3Bpartnum%3D445WR8E UHPXL%26amp%3BfromCompare1%3Dyes%26amp%3Bplace%3D4 1%26amp%3

Default Thanks for the comments. Is anyone running 255/45/18?

That's a size I'd like to consider, although it may be too tall with Pilots.

Default Luckily I don't live in NY/NJ anymore, Tampa roads are much better.

Although the roads are not that great here either.
