Default sound check

Hi - recently purchased a 2003 allroad, driving on the highway the other day, I noticed a high pitched (screetchy?) kind of noise. Lowered the window, and noticed it was being amplified by the concrete barrier. Switched lanes, and noticed the same noise on the passenger side. At first, thought it might be wind noise, but my wife noticed it just driving about town. Any ideas?

thx.

Check for a stone lodged against a brake pad. Or, check the wheel bearings.

Default Update - took the car this morning

It sounds more like metal on metal contact (like a sliding (not hitting)whisk in a metal bowl?), and is noticable in a straight line, with no change in sound in the corners...definitely going to get it checked out, just wondering if there is anything other than wheel bearings/brakes I should have checked out...
