Starter Problem
New alert for early allroads: my 2001 failed to start the other day; not the battery. Had to flatbed it to home shop. Turned out NOT to be the starter! The battery wire on the starter had somehow loosen sufficient to not allow contact to the terminal. My mechanic / friend and I were trying to jerk start the starter /solendoid from below the vehicle (it was on a lift, I worked the ignition from atop the lift while he was below) so I could drive it to Audi to replace the starter (+ $ 800 w/ labor). He noticed a spark but no starter engagement when I switched the ignition on. Re-tightening the wire prove a b_tch but was accomplished and the vehicle was good to go.

Re: warranty @ 103,000 ?
The wire failure and repair wasn't handled by Audi. A typical service department wouldn't have discovered the problem until the entire undercarriage was exposed.
