time for a religious debate. Passport 8500 X50 or V1?

Passport
First, let me say I am biased, but have no practical experience with the V1. I have an X50 in the ar (hardwired) and love it. I find it very easy to use and never actually look at it as I am attuned to its sounds. This is my second passport and have had positive experience with it. Also, i believe there is a large cost diffential between the two, if I remember correctly. Either way I suspect you will be happy with you selection.

I expect the new 8500 X50...
...has upgraded sensitivity over the previous version, so I don't know how that compares. I can say for sure that the previous version, which I used for a year and my wife (who's not as agressive a driver as I am) now uses, is far less sensitive than the V1. I'm reminded of this every time down our subdivision road -- the V1 picks up a motion sensor that someone's house has much sooner.
But my main attraction to the V1 is its two antennae and consequent directional capability. You need to be prepared to mount the thing so it can see out the back window as well as the front, but, having done that, you pick up signals from both directions and the unit tells you a signal's origin. I've become addicted to it -- now, in my wife's car when the 8500 goes off, I find myself in a panic because I don't know where the source is and then swiveling my head around trying to find it. IMO, it's well worth the extra $100 over the (old) 8500 (I don't know the price of the X50). HPH

V-1 arrows rule...once you've gotten used to them, you can never go back...
I'm sure I would go nuts not knowing the signal location. It is nice to know it's origin and be able to IGNORE it sometimes, because it's rarely a threat once you see it's behind you. You will be glad you spent the extra $100 every time those arrows give you the 'green light' that other detectors can't.

Tried each for about ten days, including some controlled
conditions (there are a couple of stationary this-is-your-speed signs in my area), returned the Passport. Splurged for the remote display (hardwired into the left corner of the dash at the base of the windshield) and remote audio (lower left of instrument display -- quick and easy to reach) and I'm a true believer. Arrows are indispensable once you've lived with them.

It's all about the arrows!
The knowledge they provide is invaluable. I'll never go back to not having them!

https://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/1506532.phtml</a
