TPMS - Replacement Sensors - Newly Revised Parts, Lots of $$$
Listers,
Lost another tire pressure sensor on my '03 this month thanks to a dying battery. This is the third in a year.
A quick call to Carson was made, and he informed me that there's a new sensor with a new part number, and, of course, a new price: $166 our cost. This is almost double what I paid three months ago for the last one that went.
Another call was made to friend who's an Audi tech. He didn't have time to look the part up, but indicated that Audi has "upgraded" the systems for the older A8s, and when a sensor goes, not only does it require a replacement, but also a new control unit - big $$. He wasn't surprised to hear of the price increase, and was worried that Audi's starting down the same path now with the older A6s.
Has anyone heard more or experience more on this topic recently? I'm willing to keep the TPMS going with the cheaper sensors, but not the newer, more expensive ones. If that's all that is out there, I'll turn it off.
Thoughts?
GG

I would have all the sensors checked to see how many months left on the batteries on the remaining
sensors. Then decide which ones to replace. When one went on mine, they all went within a year.

For that kind of scratch, we should try...
...to figure out how to dig the batteries out and replace ourselves. Looking at them it doesn't seem to be that complicated, they're just epoxied in there.

Agreed - looks like my fourth and final will be next...
Battery is low. I'm going to replace 3+4 at the same time, hopefully with older (cheaper) units. My goal is to keep the system going another 3-4 years.
