Default Update: Just had the first 5000 miles service at the dealer

and the tech overfilled the 2.7 engine with 7qt. of motor oil (mobil1 synth). By the way, tech also update screws that fasten the receptacles where the tonneau covers and the manual shade attach to. Apparently the screws were stripped (verify on your allroad when you get a chance). Anyhow back to the oil issue. The cold dipstick indicates oil level beyond the maximum marker and below the top of the orange color plastic. I've informed my service manager and request for recommendation. He first indicated that the oil level will decrease within the first 100 miles after the oil change and it will settle within the min and max markers. Secondly, this engine is able to tolerate an overfill of up to two additional quarts (up to 9 qt.) before it will cause any leaks to the head gasket. Any excess will just be burned off as white puff of smoke through the twin tailpipes. Can anyone confirm this claim? Do we have any audi tech on this forum to corroborate this claim?

Default B.S.

Too much oil is a bad thing, no matter what the tech's 'experience' at what the allroads' engine configuration is capable of standing. Perhaps he was thinking of the S4's capacity, which is greater than our cars.

To keep things smooth with the dealer, I'd probably drop the belly pan and drain the oil down myself, and then refill to appropriate level.

Of course, you can take the car back and simply say "the oil level in the car is incorrect, and I am uncomfortable with driving it in fear that I might be putting undue strain on the engine or risking damage. Please change it so that it agrees with the published specs for this particular car. Thank you."

And... "tonneau cover"... do you have convertible allroad? ;-)

Good luck!

Default I don't think the AR can take 9 qts without issue...

My AR was overfilled once (maybe by 3/4 - 1 qt) and started dripping the oil.

I didn't get a while cloud or anything, just noticed the drop and took it back to the dealer to resolve.

Good luck!

7.33 quarts to fill. Assuming they removed the oil filter.

Default It's not so hard to drain out a quart or two and be back to 'normal'

Use a good rubber glove to hold the plug, put it in after the oil drains a bit. Why waste 7+ quarts of Mobil 1?

I've had several cars 'overfilled,' and that's how I had it fixed. It's not a good thing, but most recently I left it overfilled by a quart for 5k miles on my 100k mile Dodge - with no ill effect. V-6, 4 valve 225hp 3.2 litre. It's easy to experiment on a car that you don't care passionately about. It didn't burn it down to 'max,' either.

Default Agreed - allroad is very sensitive to oil overfill - 1/2 qt over is too much..

Burnt oil ruins the Ot sensor& cat converters, among other things. High oil pressure may blow your seals - rear main, valve cover, cam, etc.

Also, be sure the dealer uses 0Wx or perhaps 5W30 fully synthetic oil. My 2.7t take 7+ qts for an oil/filter change.

Default When you request your dealer to use fully synthetic motor oil

in your allroad, did the dealer ask you to bring in your own oil? Mine claims that he uses conventional oil. If I wanted synthetic oil then I must provide the 7 quarts.
