Default Using a vag-com shareware

can you still do the 402, remote window mod, ect with the shareware? If so, thoughts on buying a cheap vag cable via ebay for around $20 and downloading the shareware?<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/KKL-409-1-VAG-COM-VW-AUDI-SEAT-SKODA-OBD2-II-USB-CABLE_W0QQitemZ220040351733QQihZ012QQcategoryZ3092 1QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem">ebay cable</a></li></ul>

Default the free version of the Ross-Tech software will not allow you to complete the 402 mod

not sure about the remote window mod or others, but I doubt it.

I thought about doing the same thing (cheap ebay cable), but I bought the Ross Tech cable and I think it was a good purchase...

The nice thing about the RossTech vag-com cable is that it also acts as a 'dongle', to automatically unlock the full version of the software.

If you use a brand-x cable you will have to buy an authentication code from RossTech to unlock the software, then if you unexpectedly damage or loose your computer you will have to buy another code

Plus I have a couple laptops, with the RossTech cable I can have the free downloaded software on all of them, and then I just plug in the Ross-Tech cable and it is fully unlocked.

In addition, some people have had problems with the brand-x cables, and RossTech won't offer support for them either. I have been glad that I had Ross-Tech support on one occasion so far.

Prodiag is another option (vag on a palm device). I leave it in the car.

Default Dude you have an allroad *and* an S6? Is $230 really going to put you in the red, Mao?

Just saying. Communal tools (especially when portable) aren't all they're cracked up to be. Truuuuust me on this.

If you just need it one time (402 mod, central lock mod, etc), check the VagCom locator page.

Default "no more money into this beast"??

Is your ar on its last legs or something? I've seen you have been having break problems. Are you selling it soon? Was your ar in an accident? just curious...

I also have a 2001, but I'm saving for h-sports, wheels, chip, exahust, rns-e, winter floor mats, cargo box, bike rack, on and on and on...

maybe you can talk me out of it...

(I should probably be saving for when/if the c6 ar makes it here

Default I just can't decide....I really love this car, but finding anyone

competant to work on it here is getting old...I'm so upside down on the loan though and I don't like anything else out there that I can afford and I've driven almost everything. Maybe once this brake issue is resolved and I have new tires on I'll feel differently.

No, never in any accidents, this was a very clean lease turn-in with only 34k miles when I bought it two years ago (it has only had every one of the known issues, but most were covered before 50k and the rest my extended has paid for so that isn't an issue)...I also have to decide in the next 3k miles whether to extend my extended warranty and it scares me to think of turbos going out on my nickel...I really would like to get a VAG, find someone who would love to learn how to do this and had the tools, pay them and keep this forever but.....
