Warranty coming to an end -- buy extended or sell the car?
My 2002 is coming to the end of its warranty. I've waffled on selling the car or not, but am mostly happy with it (as long as I don't read about S4 Avants). Spoke to our Vancouver dealer a day ago and he tells me they can sell me an aftermarket extended warranty for an additional 3 years coverage, up to 100,000 km for ~$3500 CDN. $50 deductible, everything covered except routine maintenance and normal wear and tear.
So the questions. ...
1. keep the car or get rid of it?
2. if keep, buy the warranty or put the $3500 in the bank and gamble?
Any experience with aftermarket warranties out there? Any advice?
Thanks.

Re: Warranty coming to an end -- buy extended or sell the car?
Not knowing what your financial situation is, how many miles on your car, what work has been done previously, how much you owe on your '02', or what your monthly payment is
IMO, since your on the fence about selling the allroad, trade your '02' in if you owe less than what trade in value is plus the $3500 you have for the warranty and buy a newer CPO S4 Avant. You'll pay the sales tax on the diff., have a 100k mi. warranty, and chances are your payment may be the same as it is today (unless you own your current allroad).
If your upside down on your '02' (I am on my '03') and you want to keep it (which sounds like your are on the fence about) and need a warranty, that's obviously an option.
I would just keep the money in the bank, create a car fund & put a little/month in it as I have a good local mechanic.

I'd just say you are going to experience the following with the S4 avant.
1) 10 mpg city 17-19 highway (honest), no bs.
2) the S4's space is much less inside
3) yes it'll be quicker firm, responsive ride, but it is an S4 after all... a great car.
4) if you use the AR for it's utilitarian do it all very well life, you'll notice the S4 avant comes up short in that dept.
5) depreciation, it's a nasty game on the S4 but then if you can do it, do it. Just make sure you've spent enough time in the S4 to know that it's night & day to the AR. both good and bad

Mileage now? Do you mean an additional 100 km from now, or up to total
odo of 100,000 km? If the latter, that does not seem to be a great deal. Our policies in the US tend to allow up to 100,000 total vehicle MILES of coverage for that kind of money, even at the 90% exchange rate. Try an independent agent for other policies, maybe a web reseller.

Ya, I stopped in Kent and talked to Jim about a fitment of 10's for my '66 vette...
just haven't pulled that trigger yet. $$$ going other places (kids collage). Plus he's the one that got the $3k worth of wheels on his GTI (grad gift).

I'm lucky enough to live here in Seattle as well and have gotten the tour of their facilites as well, fantastic place & product.
My FM-10's were 5800 for the rims as I had 5 with satin finish and they were 18X8 and fit my 01 & 04 S4's beautifully...
ohh how I miss them, so pretty! but you know how it goes... priorities!

I know a guy that operated one of their machine centers while...
he was laid off, from here at the kite factory. He said the same, pretty nice guys, and that was after I had talked to them.
