What is the fluid spec for the power steering?

Should use Audi's fluid I was told...
I went to Audi and bought a bottle of their fluid, "Liquid Gold" they called it. Dealer told me to be sure I used Audi's fluid...part number on the bottle is G 002 000.

They call it that because it is so darn expensive. From what I recall, it is a mineral oil... quite different from regular power steering fluid. It is not simply a case where most manufacturers want you to use their fluids and filters just to make more $$... Audi's fluid is truly a proprietary fluid.
From all that I've ever heard (from owning a 1992 100S for almost ten years), it is necessary to use their fluid... otherwise there could be leaks with seals etc. if you use "regular" fluid.
If there isn't an Audi dealer close by, I believe that you can also find it at a VW dealer.
Like most things, if you buy it online, you can get a better price.
Hope that helps.

yup... what those guys said... If it is the same Pentosin as used on the '91 and earlier 200s and 5000s (like I used to own), there are cheaper places to get it. I got some from a local place for $12 per liter. Dealer was > $20 per liter. We used to call it green gold, because the fluid was actually green in color (and expensive). On those old cars, leaks weren't uncommon. I did 2 rack and 3 pump replacements on my '87 5KTQ. I did hoses on my '91 200q20v. The pressure they would run at was around 2000 psi. Best to put the right stuff in!
