What is your average (hand-calculated) gas mileage? Mine is 18.3 mpg @ 20K miles on the odo.

Your calculated mileage, not what the computer says, averaged over at least 1000 miles of city/highway driving. I know this has been asked before, but there are alot of new people here.

18.9 at 2,500 on the odo...
Which brings up a good question... Why is the mpg calculated by the computer so much different than what you get when you calculate by hand? The computer typically shows about 1.5 mpg better that I get when I calculate by hand. Seems like a *marketing gimmick*
Oh, and I have a 6 speed. Work commute is 30 miles, 26 miles at highway speeds, 75-80, and 4 miles in neighborhood traffic.

Re: A matter of trust.....
I think for comparison it may be better to ask for what the computer says, at least we know it will be consistant, even if it is exagerated.
Also we need to know if its a tip or 6speed, or 4.2 or 2.7.
With 1065 miles on odo, I am 19.8. Been easy during break in. I have a 6speed. That is what the computer says.

Not at all true... computer mileage reporting can be adjusted with VAG-COM...
and its difference from real (calculated) mileage is not consistent from car to car.
Nothing is more acurate than (actual miles driven / actual gallons filled). =)

Pre-Breakin, Pre-Mobil-1, W/ lots of Yakima stuff on roof... 16.9mpg...
That only covers mileage up to about 6000k. Need to enter new values in spreadsheet to get updated figures. Mileage has gone up noticably, as I can now get 16.9 even with the car loaded with people/bags/skis, and the pedal floored up the mountain.

My S6 computer is 4% optimistic, my 4.2 computer was ~8% optimistic...
almost all computers are inflated...you'll likely find somewhat lower true values if you calculate yourself.
The computer is more accurate if you are doing a long trip on the highway without stop and go traffic...accuracy gets down to anywhere from -2 to +2%, in my experience of ~47,000 tracked miles.

I don't even really go with computer readings...
The computer tells me that I get 100mph at stop lights sometimes. I have realized that if you coast to stop lights, the readings go way up. So I have been coasting a lot lately. I coast downhills, I coast on the freeway before exiting, I coast to red lights. I have noticed that I can squeeze out about 20-25 more miles per tank, using this methodology.
