Default Wheel bearing....

I am taking the allroad 2003 6speed to the dealer Friday to replace a bad wheel bearing... I had the same issue with my A6 around 55k. What is the real cause of wheel bearings going bad? Anybody around had to deal with this problem?

Default I've heard that wheels that are pushed too far out can cause premature bearing wear.

Also, hitting a curb is bad

Since it is a CPO, this could have been the case....

Default Just curious, how many miles? And what is the estimated cost? (if you weren't cpo)

I have pretty big spacers on my AR and I'm just wondering what I'm asking for...

I have put 11,000miles on it. And it does no city driving. I have the OEM rims. I bought the car with 51,000 miles. The previous owner could have used diffrent rims....The car has 62k.

I had the same problem on my A6 and once I changed the deffective bearing I was OK and never had a problem again....

Price I would say around $400.

How are your roads? A good pothole can shorten their life.

Default Looks like it may be the tires...

So not too bad.

Took the car to the dealer and two technicians drove it and said it was the tires. They could be right. only the new tires will tell.

I have my new winter tires in the garage, I am going to do the wheel alignment and put my winter set. Then... if there is still an issue they will look at the bearings...

Default Re: Wheel bearing....

I had the same problem with my 2004 allroad with 27K miles. Tech drove it and thought it was the tires. Tire shop rotated tires and noise persisted. Wheel bearings replaced under warranty and problem solved.

Default I have a very good ear....

I am also a musician... That may explain why? But anyway I have to put my winter tires on and do a wheel alignment. I have an appointment at the dealer on Friday anyway. And if get the noise with the new tires, they will look at the bearings.
